I am a 52 year old
woman, married with two children. I would characterize myself as a
young 52 based on my level of activity and frame of mind. I am a
high school teacher and lead a very active, and at times, stressful
life. I love to hike, garden and do all kinds of outdoor activities.
I could never quite figure out, based on my caloric output, how it
was possible to gain a couple of extra pounds with every birthday.
Nevertheless, to add insult to injury every year the scale inches up
and my jeans get slightly tighter. I reached a point where I looked
in the mirror and wondered who had taken over my body; I dreaded the
thought of putting on a bathing suit even though summer was my
favorite time of the year. Sick of sweats and baggy clothes, I
realized I needed to take immediate steps and get my self under
control. I could have joined a gym but Id done that in the past and
it works for a while but then gets boring and passes like a faded
fashion trend. I realized, this time, I needed to look at the whole
package: eating habits, attitude, physical activity, meditative time
and playtime. Angels at Work put this all into perspective for me
and provided me with the skills, counseling and assistance I needed
to get on the right track.
I have a unique situation because we decided, as a family, to work
together on becoming healthier. Its awesome to have that support
system, positive reinforcement and multiple voices encouraging you
to have just a sliver of cake instead of a slab. Together we changed
what we eat, when we eat and how much we eat. Sometimes we work out
together, sometimes by ourselves. But we all have a routine and our
bodies tell us when they need to be worked.
As I near retirement and dream of new quests, it is important for me
to be physically fit and holistically balanced: mind, body and soul.
I want to enjoy my golden years, by being healthy, fit and
energized. What we are doing today isnt a fad and it isnt a diet.
It is a frame of mind; and a positive way of life. We will be
forever grateful to the Angels at Work team for their positive
impact on our mental, physical and emotional wellbeing, not only as
individuals, but as a family. If we can do it, so can you!
